21 day road stand coming up. I’m in Hayward, WI this week doing a 4 day long “Web 2.0 in Education” workshop for a group of 20 folks. Reports as I go. Hayward has a really big Muskie museum. I may have to revisit this thing during the week.
Thanks to all for the phone advice. I couldn’t hold back any longer for the iPhone. I pulled the trigger and went the way of a Blackberry 8703.
I’ve played with cell phones for a while, but this is my first “serious” phone. The nice folks at our local cell shop didn’t have this model in stock, so they ordered one overnight shipped, threw in a car charger, and will call my wife when it arrives and is charged up tomorrow. Despite it not being in stock, the Alltel dealer in Platteville, WI was far and away the best experience I’ve ever had shopping for a cell phone.

Call me when you get it. I’m going to pick one up this week or next, as soon as they hand over the company card… Everyone at our place has gone with the Treo, and we hook it up with our MS Exchange server. What I can’t figure out is if I need to have Windows Mobile. If I can connect into my server via the web, is there any need for local applications? And could I just convert to something like Open Office. This is a seriously stressful purchase. I know that what ever I end up getting, I will end up loving for the first 45 days. Right after the “no questions asked” return policy ends, I’ll find all the things wrong with it, see yours, and have buyers remorse… Most people haven’t had enough experience with multiple brands to give real constructive criticism. I just don’t trust Ethan at Verizon, who hasn’t had more than 3 tasks on his plate on any given day of his 3 year career, to give me objective advice on a PDA. “It can play MP3′s, and it has a camera.” Yeah.
I’m with Eric. Since I am trying to implement more Macs in our ISD’s, I would love to get the iPhone. But I am afraid I would not be able to download attachments and edit Office documents. Anybody know this? ATT sure doesn’t.
So I was looking at their 8525 and Treos. The 8525 is a slick piece with Windows mobile and touch screen interface and slide out keypad. The Treo comes with either Windows mobile or Palm PS. I know I can do everything with the Treo Windows, but it requires a lot of resets (both voluntary and involuntary) from what I have read. The Palm OS does not (I am guessing here) offer all of the same download and edit possibilities, but it has some shareware I can download to use it as my modem with my laptop (not sure if it does Mac, though).
Too many questions and nobody to answer them all. I have not even started with Skype, AIM, POP3, del.icio.us, bloglines……. Who do I/we turn to here? Basically, I want a MacBook that is a cell phone and fits in my pocket.

Let me know how it turns out, and let me know if you get it bluetooth’ed up to the mac.
